Megan and I spent a week in Illinois visiting some family and exploring more of the state than expected. We stayed at her sister's house for the week, took the train downtown on Tuesday and Thursday, her sister was nice to let us borrow a car Monday and Wednesday to drive around and sight see. Saturday we all went to Six Flags and spent the day riding roller coasters and walking around for Scare Fest! I think we did more walking over this week than I have in the last few months combined, when we got home one pair of shoes went into the garbage, can't remember the last time my feet hurt that bad.
Saturday - Six Flags (5.7mi)
Sunday - Football and Beer!
Monday - Bar Hopping
Tuesday - Sears Tower, Boat Tour, Science Museum (6.15mi)
Wednesday - Starved Rock, Champagne (4.1mi)
Thursday - Shedd Aquarium, Soldier Field, Field Museum, Fountain, Bean. (9.33mi)
Friday - breakfast with family, fly home
Over 5.7 miles of walking, my feet were tired by end of the day!
Bueller....Bueller.....
Glad the river was calm so I didn't get motion sick!
Largest train set and city model I've ever seen.
Our Wednesday exploring took us to the site of a multi-murder location from the '50s, sure because that's not creepy or anything....Megan!
The Lake is large enough to seem like an ocean
For those 90's sitcom fans
Millennium Park large metal bean. Why? I have no Idea
I have not been to Six Flags since 1995 the summer before we moved from Wisconsin to AZ. Going back it seemed like a lot of the same rides with a few new ones mixed in. I actually couldn't ride the Batman! Apparently I am too tall and thick for the seat to lock in, go figure! Pretty sure that's the same cop car from'95
Megan is not a fan of heights so I was surprised she wanted to do this but I rather enjoyed the view from the 103rd flood of the tower. We even stood at the spot where they filmed part of Ferris Bueller's Day Off movie. Megan is a huge fan of the movie, her parents even helped setup some of the floats that were in the parade for the movie back in the 80's
We walked from the Sears Tower to the river to take a boat tour and learn the history and architecture styles over the years. The water was nice and calm, so no motion sickness for me. Learned a lot about the history of Chicago and different towers of the downtown area. Don't ever recommend driving downtown, parking is near impossible, take the train, cab/uber, or walk (if your feet/shoes can handle it)
After the boat tour we got lunch and then went to the Science Museum. We walked around and checked out several exhibits.
On Wednesday, Megan and I drove to Starved Rock, a state park about an hour west of her sister's house. Megan has always wanted to visit and after watching a documentary about three murders that happened in the '50s, it made her extra enthusiastic to go, it was pretty there and got to see a lot of fall colors.
