This Lake just ended up being Chris and I. It was good to get out of the city and get some fresh air. The main camping grounds were closed and restricted to RVs only so we had to drive back a couple miles to find an area that we could set up our tents. It was nice and secluded. Unfortunately on the way up the Tahoe was having some over heating issues through the mountains but we took it easy and didn't push it too hard, some beautiful scenery on the drive there, I haven't been to Big Lake since I was 15, doesn't look anything like I remember because of the 2011 fires, but it was a good weekend away. We got hit by some heavy rains and hail on the drive up, like most Arizona storms it only lasted 10 minutes and then stopped and was sunny the rest of the day. Took more pictures this time, I had to borrow a tent from Chris since the tent I was originally planning to use was not available because another person did not come with. The first night we were there a skunk wondered into our camp, we smelled it before we saw it, we just watched as it wandered past our area not coming too close but stopped to east some watermelon someone else had broken up and left behind before we got there. It had its tail aimed right at us as it ate but we never got close enough to scare it into spraying. Rest of the night was uneventful, too many clouds overhead to look at the stars the first night. The 2nd night was clear skies, I woke up around 4am and found that something got into our trash can so after cleaning it up I sat around in an opening and looked at the stars for a while before trying to go back to sleep. I wish I had pulled the rain cover off the tent to I could lay in bed and look up at them.
We fished Saturday morning, but never caught anything, we got there too late in the morning to get any good action plus neither of us know what we are doing, lol. We tried to go for a hike after lunch but with so many dead trees that were still on the ground from the fires it made it hard to find a path through, we were too low on gas to take some of the dirt roads and explore some more so we hung out around camp and just relaxed and talked.
