This year we went to the lake with some friends and got to use our new paddle boards. There was a group of about 16 in total. Got a little rain Saturday but overall a nice relaxing weekend. It was a little hotter than I expected but not nearly as hot as Phoenix was. spent a good amount of time on the water, Ryker did much better on the paddle board than I thought he would. The lake is the highest I have ever seen it in the years I have been going. It was awesome to see the lake near max capacity after the rain and snow we had this last winter.
So the camping trip just ended up being Megan and I with Ryker. We got there early Friday and setup camp. After we were setup we went for a drive and check out some trails and some other future camp sites. While driving around we went down a trail where a cow was laying in the middle of the road, we stopped and the cow stood up and just stared at us, wouldn't move from the road and was acting like they were protecting the area, we noticed several other cows hanging out in the trees, one of them had a white face what looked like war paint and that cow was also giving us the stare down. Once Ryker started barking at them we decided it was time to leave and not mess with the group. We then went down to the lake and hung out for a bit and enjoyed the cool water, we saw a bald eagle on the other side of the lake just hanging out in the trees. We got a few pictures before it flew off. After we went back to camp and hung out listening to music and talking for the rest of the night, brought out the drone and got a few pics and videos of camp and the area around us from above the trees.
Saturday we got up and went back to the lake, Megan borrowed a paddle board from a friend and she spent a couple hours out on the lake while I hung out on the beach playing fetch with Ryker. It was nice and peaceful and good to be out of the city. We could hear a storm coming in and see clouds getting closer, we went back to camp and were hanging out when it started to rain, it didnt take long before it started to come down hard and start a creek running through camp, when the lightning got close enough to camp we decided to take shelter in the Tahoe, storm didn't last more than 45 min but was fun to see how much water came down in such a short time. After we got to play cleanup and try to dry out some stuff that got blown over and wet in the rain, luckily nothing got ruined and the tent stayed dry for the most part (forgot a couple windows open at the beginning of the storm) While Megan and I cleaned up Ryker just hung out in the back seat, not sure if he was scared from the thunder or just didn't want to run around in all the mud but he hung out for over 30 min before he hopped back out. The storm brought the temperatures down quiet a bit so was nice and chilly when we went to bed.
Come Sunday morning after breakfast we could hear a storm coming in again so we broke down camp and got ready to head home, there was a little drizzle while we packed up but nothing close to the day before. We could have hung out a bit longer but wasn't worth the risk getting caught in another storm.
This weekend I went camping with Jake, Nicole, and Jake's brother Zack. We went up Friday as soon as Jake got off of work. It was nice to have the Tahoe back running like normal, after the over heating issues last time I ended up getting a new radiator and fan pulley. The drive up was kind of sad seeing all the parts of the mountain that was burned by the wildfire but once past Payson it was all green again and the temperatures dropped quickly. The road was just as wash boarded as Chevelon Lake was a couple months back. Watching Jake's little Honda Fit bounce around and him trying to miss all the rocks and rough spots was funny since I spent most of my time weaving back and forth trying to fish tail and goof around instead of running his car over or leaving them in a cloud of dust, but I will give him credit, he took it back in areas I wouldn't have wanted to take my car.
We were a lot closer to the Rim itself than I would have expected, it was fun to drive up near the cliffs and look down, some spots would have been fun to base jump off of, though the wind was so strong in some parts that I didn't push my luck too much going to the edge and climbing out on some of the rocks. I did finally spread some of Jade's ashes around on one of the cliffs I walked out to, I had planned to spread some on my last 2 trips but kept forgetting to take them with me and looking back I'm glad I didn't take her on my first trip this year.
It has been 2 years now, it was time.
The lake was nice and cool. I got to test out my new DSLR camera and finally got to use the propane fire pit that was 2 days too late being delivered for my last trip. The fire was great at night since since the fire ban was in place and not having all the smoke was great to not dry out my eyes with all the smoke. I left the rain cover off the roof of the tent so I could see the stars at night while I was laying there, I was watching some shooting stars and looking for satellites going by, some company to keep me warm would have been nice but maybe next time. The road to get from the camp to the lake from the back side of the lake was fun to take in the Beast, Jake and Zack had to leave their rides behind, no way either of them would have ever made it, some of the spots were even rough for me but it was fun and I'm still learning what the Tahoe is capable of doing. Once we parked we didnt exactly take the best route to get to the water but we made it, I almost slid down the side of the hill/cliff and almost went into the water which would have sucked with my new camera and other electronics on me, luckily Jake was able to double back and help me get back up, learned really quick I need better hiking shoes and a backpack, they will be bought before next trip, lol.
