For my birthday this year my parents decided to take Cassie, Megan, and I to Page to hang out for a few days and to kayak down part of the Colorado River and around Horseshoe Bend. We caravanned on Sunday morning to get up early enough to hang out and relax and do a little sight seeing. First we drove down to where we would start and end the kayaking trip, then drove up to a bridge just a few miles away and checked out some of the shops that were setup for jewelry and other items. Then the next morning we got up early and went back to the kayaking spot, they loaded us on boats and took us up the river and dropped us off about halfway up the river, and we spent my bday floating back down the river, overall took us roughly 6-7 hours to float back down.
This was the first time Megan has gone on vacation with my parents and sister, even thought they have all met before this was the first time spending significant time together. Luckily there were no arguments and no one threw each other overboard, though I may have been threatened once or twice (guess who threatened me, lol) as warm as it was the water was refreshing when we did willingly jump in, but was still cold enough we didn't stay in for too long. Cass and dad were in the kayak together and Megan, mom, and I were in the raft. The kayak was definitely easier to maneuver and faster down the water than the raft but worked well when we tied them together and all hung out, only had 1 hiccup for the day when someone stabbed the bottom of the kayak with a knife while trying to clean the plastic rudder out of sand, I didn't stab it but for now on I will not take my knife with me around inflatable boats (or at least not let someone else use the knife, lol)
After the kayaking trip we all took a break then went to dinner, the next morning we hiked to the top of Horseshoe Bend and got a few more pictures and checked out the sights and could see where we had started the kayaking trip the day before, I tried to lean over and get some good cliff shots but I will admit I am not as daring as I once was leaning over cliffs, I still got closer to the edge than Megan was comfortable with but still not doing the same climbing like I did in my 20's. After our hike we all drove up to Lake Powell and checked out the dam and the southern part of the lake, we wanted to hike Antelope Canyon but with Covid unfortunately things didn't go as planned but we will save that for another family trip.
